1990 Set of CMUL Alumni Association Donates Inverter to the College
The 1990 set of the College of Medicine Alumni Association on Thursday, July 29, 2010 donated a 5KVA Inverter to the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos for use in the Students’ Lecture Theatre.
Receiving the Inverter on behalf of Management, the Deputy College Secretary (General Administration), Oladejo Azeez, Esq., thanked the Alumni and Alumnae for their kind gesture to the College. He stressed that others should follow the exemplary step taken by the 1990 set who deemed it fit to remember their alma mater. He pledged that the 5KVA Inverter would be used to ease the problem of incessant power outage in the Students’ Lecture Theatre.
The Secretary, CMUL Alumni Association, Professor M. O. Kehinde, expressed gratitude to the 1990 set for the donation. He encouraged other Alumni of the College to remember that the Institution needs them at all times. He further remarked that the CMUL website is now active, and that all alumni members can access information therein by logging on to www.cmul.edu.ng.
The Co-ordinator of the 1990 set, Dr. Tunde Segun, from the John Hopkins University, U.S.A., who presented the Inverter on behalf of the set promised that the presentation was the beginning of greater things to happen in the future.
Other senior officers at the presentation were Mr. O. Obafemi-Moses, Principal Assistant Secretary (Provost’s Office), Mr. O. Oke, Principal Assistant Secretary (Personnel), Mr. A. O. Adeyemo, Assistant Secretary (Committee & Planning), Mrs. Bimpe Odeniyi, Esq., Assistant Secretary (General Administration), Kelechi Obiora, Esq., Assistant Secretary (Legal), Mr. O. O. Odubunmi, Assistant Secretary (Endowment and Advancement) and Mr. O. O. Babatunde, Administrative Officer (Information Unit).
Members of the 1990 set of CMUL Alumni Association at the presentation were, Dr. Tunde Segun (Co-ordinator); Dr. A. O. Daramola, Senior Lecturer, Morbid Anatomy Department, Dr. (Mrs.) D.C. Umesi-Koleoso, Acting Head, Restorative Dentistry Department, Dr. Eden Igbafe and Dr. K.H. Tijani, Lecturer, Dept. of Surgery.
Similarly, an M.Sc. student in the Department of Biochemistry, Mr. Adeoye Abiona, donated 1KVA Inverter to the Teaching Laboratory of the Department.
Speaking during the presentation, the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. S. A. Omilabu, noted that the Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Lagos, had reiterated that the University should encourage its Alumni in diaspora to donate generously to their alma mater. He stressed that it is a regular feature in
Europe and the Americas for university alumni to compete in donating to their alma mater. He therefore enjoined students to emulate this practice.
The Head, Biochemistry Department, Prof. (Mrs.) O. A. Magbagbeola, expressed gratitude for the donation and promised that the Inverter would be fully utilized.
Mr. Abiona also expressed his happiness in presenting the Inverter. He praised the Department for its high quality teaching, research and community service.
